Johnny arrived back to help his mother Linda, who has started drinking heavily again after killing Keanu Taylor on Christmas Day.

Charlie has acted in other projects before landing his current role on EastEnders, appearing in ITV dramas Grantchester and Grace.

But away from his acting work, Charlie is also a keen musician and is part of a band called Third Face.

The band’s first Instagram post is dated September 2022 and sees Charlie dressed in a blonde curly wig, denim skirt, black top and biker jacket while holding a cigarette.

The caption read: “yo! first third face single coming out everywhere v soon.”

Another black and white snap sees Charlie look unrecognisable to Johnny’s clean-cut future lawyer look in the soap as he sported a beard while playing a guitar.

Charlie then released the first track from his EP called Lost in It in October that year, before a second single called Something in Movement was released.

Charlie’s last update was in September 2023 with pictures from a gig, writing: “swing down for a largey one at Blossoms on Friday, we are buzzed to be playing alongside some wicked bands. thank you @leafpromotions. would love to see some faces there. we got some surprises in store. big kiss, third face x.”

However, things seem to have gone quiet since then, and now Charlie has joined EastEnders, fans will have to wait and see if the star has time to continue making the music he clearly enjoys.

When his casting was announced, Charlie said: “I’m so delighted to be joining such an iconic programme – EastEnders was always on at my house when I was growing up.

Johnny Carter – played by Ted Reilly – leaves EastEnders in 2018
“Johnny is a complex character who has been through so much, which I can’t wait to explore.

“I’ve found EastEnders to be the most kind and loving space to work in, and I already feel like one of the family.”

EastEnders boss Chris Clenshaw added: “I’m delighted to welcome Charlie Suff to the role of Johnny Carter.

“Although we haven’t seen Johnny on the Square in almost five years, his character remains linked to the show and its most iconic venue, The Queen Vic.

“Since his short time away, the Carter family dynamics have changed significantly, and it’s safe to say that Johnny will be returning to a very different Walford than the one he left.”
