Hollyoaks confirms groundbreaking trans storyline for 12-year-old Rose Lomax

Rose, as viewers know, has been struggling at school in recent months, with newcomer Kitty (Iz Hesketh), who moved in to the flat above The Dog, proving to be a great friend to her.

Upcoming scenes will see this friendship explored in more detail, with Dee Dee’s interest piqued when she finds an ID in Kitty’s bag with a different name on it.

Rose intervenes, telling Dee Dee that it’s normal for people transitioning to experiment with different names and soon enough, Rose quizzes Kitty on her transitioning story.

In emotional scenes, Kitty explains that her own father walked out on her when she was 14. The revelation leaves Rose quiet, with Kitty convinced that the youngster is holding something back, prompting the barmaid to quiz them further on the subject.

Diane (Alex Fletcher), however, interrupts.

Kitty’s attention is soon elsewhere when she and Beau Ramsey (Jon-Paul Bell) laugh about the love notes they’ve received, agreeing to a drink together when they’ve got more time.

Rose, meanwhile, turns to Kitty once more and, in heartfelt scenes, they reveal that they’re questioning their gender identity.

After some advice from Kitty, Rose tells Diane that there is something they want to tell her.

The day in question will prove a difficult one for Diane in her role as landlady so she proves somewhat distracted when it’s time for Rose to open up.

Dee Dee, meanwhile, will agree to cut Rose’s hair, with Diane and Tony (Nick Pickard) set to be taken aback by their child’s new look.
