Sister Wives: Times When Robyn Brown’s Meddling Got Out Of Control (Why I Think She Overstepped)
Robyn Brown has come a long way since Sister Wives season 1. During the first season of the series, Kody Brown was living in polygamy with his three wives, Meri, Janelle, and Christine Brown. Kody was seeking another sister wife, and that’s when he courted Robyn. After Kody married Robyn, the Brown family dynamic was changed forever. Kody’s priorities began shifting, and he slowly distanced himself from the other wives, prioritizing his relationship with Robyn. By the time the COVID-19 pandemic happened in 2020, the cracks in the Brown family were on full display.
Christine was the first sister wife to point out Kody favored Robyn over herself, Meri, and Janelle Brown. Kody enforced strict rules during the pandemic that the majority of the Brown family felt were Robyn’s rules. Because many of Janelle and Christine’s children didn’t want to adhere to Kody’s rules, they did not see Kody or Robyn for quite a long time. Kody was essentially living in monogamy with Robyn but did not want to admit it. Christine, Janelle, and even Meri Brown grew tired of Kody’s lack of effort. Now, Kody and Robyn have a rough road ahead.

Robyn is Kody’s most loyal sister wife. No matter the circumstances, Robyn will always stick up for Kody, and vice versa. The real reason Christine left Kody was because she wasn’t a priority for him. After Christine decided to leave Kody, Robyn came to his defense. On Sister Wives, Robyn insisted that it was hard for Kody to divide his time up between the entire Brown family during the pandemic. “Before COVID, Kody was splitting his time equally,” she argued, though Christine urged this was not the case.
Robyn even placed some of the blame on Christine, as she said “When you’re a plural wife, you get messed up in your head and you realize you’re no tracking it as well.” Kody’s marriage with Christine failed because he prioritized Robyn. For plural marriage to succeed, everything has to be equal. Kody was not making sure his time was split among his wives equally, contributing to his eventual divorces. Whether Kody is in the wrong or not, Robyn will always defend him.
Janelle Brown Complained About Robyn’s Comments
She Had Enough Of “Counselor Robyn”
Janelle has been vocal about her feelings about Robyn’s remarks. She was particularly annoyed that Robyn was so upset for Kody following his divorce from Christine. During the Sister Wives: One-on-One, Janelle said she was confused why Kody and Robyn were taking the news so hard as Christine leaving Kody was bound to happen. “It just feels like she’s placating him,” Janelle said, adding that she was getting tired of “counselor Robyn.” Janelle also wasn’t happy that her sons, Gabriel Brown and the late Garrison Brown, were ostracized during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Kody and Robyn created rules for the Brown family to abide by to see each other. They were worried about potentially contracting COVID-19, but their rules felt more like statues. Gabe and Garrison followed the CDC’s recommended guidelines, but not Kody and Robyn’s. This broke their relationship, and Kody said it was their responsibility to fix things with him and Robyn. “The first ultimatum was that they would apologize to him and they would apologize to Robyn,” said Janelle, adding, “He’s not made any effort. He’s still acting like they need to come to him.”

Kody And Robyn Were Heading Towards Monogamy All Along
Robyn and Kody threw away their polygamous lifestyle for monogamy with each other. Throughout Sister Wives, Robyn was vocal about wanting to live in polygamy. Her actions said otherwise, though. Christine felt that Robyn was the “favorite wife” and she had been a “third wheel” in their relationship. Towards the end of their polygamous lifestyle, Kody was only spending time with Robyn. If Robyn wanted to live in polygamy, then Kody should have had romantic and sexual relationships with all of his wives.
“ I wanted to sit on a porch with my sister wives, with our kids and our grandkids ,” said Robyn.
During the Sister Wives: One-on-One episode following Sister Wives season 17, Robyn said her sister wives “handed” Kody to her and left him. “They handed him to me and said ‘We don’t want to spend time with him, basically,’” she said. Before she left Kody, Christine was frustrated Kody was spending most of his time with Robyn. Christine begged for Kody’s attention, and when he told her they wouldn’t be able to have an intimate relationship anymore, she knew it was time to move on.
Robyn also said she felt “tricked” into monogamy, but she could have done more to prevent this. She acted passive-aggressively towards her fellow sister wives. During the January 8, 2023, One-on-One episode, Robyn commented about “stretch marks” and “weight gain” that she noticed amongst her sister wives when she first joined the family. These comments came after Meri, Janelle, and Christine embarked on weight-loss journeys post-split from Kody. It was a weird attempt at Robyn, once again, backing Kody and blaming the women for the downfall of their marriages.
“When I came into this family, I knew and I saw when there’s stretch marks and there’s weight gain … and there’s like — you’re being stagnant in your marriage and there’s fights and money problems or whatever it is … He still had this romance going with each of them.”

Robyn has been accused of trying to ruin Kody’s relationships with his kids. Christine’s daughter, Gwendlyn Brownsaid in a YouTube video that Robyn “doesn’t trust” the children in the Brown family who aren’t hers. During a YouTube Live, Gwendlyn shared a story about when Robyn didn’t allow her son, Solomon, to be alone with her. “There was a point where Solomon and I were hanging out in my room and Robyn refused to let him be alone with me,” she said, adding that it may have been because she collects “swords […] but it felt like she doesn’t trust the other moms’ kids.”
Kody and Robyn’s strict enforcement of their COVID-19 rules caused a strain between Kody and the rest of his kids. Aside from Robyn’s, the rest of the Brown children hesitated to follow Kody and Robyn’s safety guidelines. This angered Kody, and he carried this resentment even after the pandemic slowed. He maintained the most anger towards Gabe and Garrison, Janelle’s sons. “IfGarrison and Gabe cease their social lives, then I can come home,” he said.
Kody was so furious with his sons that he wanted them to leave his home with Janelle. She was not going to let Kody throw Gabe and Garrison out and even voiced her concerns for their mental health during those isolating times. “Gabriel feels everything very, very deeply,” she said. “Garrison just seems angrier, sadder. He’s not as happy-go-lucky as he used to be,” she added. Kody stuck to his stance, and his relationship with his sons suffered.

It Was A Devastating Moment For Meri
Kody and Robyn humiliated Meri with a s’more at a family barbeque. During the pandemic, the Browns held a BBQ, despite tensions with the family and fears about COVID-19. In an infamous Sister Wives moment, Kody gave Meri a s’more; this seemed like a sweet moment between Kody and his first wife, whose relationship had been struggling for many years. Meri thought Kody offering her a s’more was a sign that their relationship could be salvaged. However, the deed quickly went sour after Meri heard Robyn say that she told Kody to give her the s’more.
Meri was humiliated that it took Robyn for Kody to do something for her. It may have seemed like a harmless moment, but Meri was devastated. Fans have felt like Robyn has forced moments on Sister Wives throughout the years, and the s’mores moment was no different. In the end, Meri said she was fine with Kody giving her the s’more on Robyn’s terms.
Robyn had insisted that she wanted to live a polygamous lifestyle through Sister Wives. Despite this, it’s clear Kody and Robyn only have eyes for each other. It’s okay if they only want to be with each other, but they need to admit to this instead of resorting to meddling in the other sister wives’ relationships to ensure they fail.
